A Cup of Darkness Please

May 21, 2015 / akniolek / Uncategorized

Darkness cannot be added. Darkness is the absence of light. The light of a candle can be

seen from five miles away on a clear moonless night. People in the military are warned that the

light from a cigarette can be seen from a mile away. When I was working the night shift, it

took great effort to keep the light out of the bedroom so I could sleep during the day. The light

would shine through every little crack, every little pinhole.

The heavens declare the glory of God;

the sky displays His handiwork.

Day after day it speaks out;

night after night it reveals His greatness.

There is no actual speech or word,

nor is its voice literally heard.

Yet its voice echoes throughout the earth;

its words carry to the distant horizon.

In the sky He has pitched a tent for the sun.

Like a bridegroom it emerges from its chamber;

like a strong man it enjoys running its course.

It emerges from the distant horizon,

and goes from one end of the sky to the other; Psalm 19:16

The Bible says light came into the world but men loved darkness.(John 3:19) Man must make

a continual effort to keep The Light of God out. He must keep filling in the cracks where The

Light of Truth is trying to come in. That is why mankind is without excuse. God seeks man. In

the Garden of Eden, God sought out man, even after he had sinned against Him, which is very

significant because God knew what it would cost to redeem mankind. He would have to send

His Son to die a painful and humiliating death on the cross, by hands of the very people He

came to save. “ How will we escape if we neglect such a great salvation?” Hebrews 2:3NET

Jesus is the Light of the world. Since He is not here with us physically, His light shines

through us. We are the ones who must pierce the darkness and shine The Light into people’s

souls. The “heavens” give people general revelation about God, which in turn opens the door

for us to shine The Light of specific revelation about our loving Savior’s plan of salvation.

If someone is sincerely seeking God, God will make sure that one of His own brings him

the words of truth. There are many examples of this. Three very vivid ones are in the book of

Acts, the conversion of the Apostle Paul, the Ethiopian eunuch and Cornelius. It is our great

privilege as believers, to be the purveyors of LIGHT to these people. We must let ourselves be

open to God’s guidance in order for this to happen. If we don’t respond to His leading,

someone else will; and we miss out on a great opportunity to serve our Savior.

In the book of Esther, we see a clear picture of this.

When Esther’s reply was conveyed to Mordecai, he said to take back this answer to

Esther:“Don’t imagine that because you are part of the king’s household you will be the

one Jew who will escape. If you keep quiet at this time, liberation and protection for the

Jews will appear from another source, while you and your father’s household perish. It

may very well be that you have achieved royal status for such a time as this!” Esther4:1214

God put Esther in the position as Queen for a reason. If Esther chose not to do the Lord’s

will, it would have hurt her, BUT the Lord’s will would still have been carried out some other

way. Let’s make it our greatest ambition to be available to God’s calling and NOT say, I’m too

busy right now. Instead let’s be like Isaiah who didn’t look to the left or right to see if anyone

else would volunteer, but anxiously responded “Here I am; send me.”

“I hear the voice of the Sovereign Master say, “Whom will I send? Who will go on our

behalf?” I answered, “Here I am, send me!” He said, “Go and tell these people:” Isaiah
